About Revue Thommen

Revue Thommen traces its origin to 1853, when the municipality of Waldenburg established the Société d’Horlogerie à Waldenbourg. In 1859, Gédéon Thommen and Louis Tschopp took over the company. After Tschopp left in 1869, Gédéon Thommen became sole owner in 1870 and renamed it Gédéon Thommen Uhrenfabrik.

The brand’s history pages attribute several milestones to the company. In 1870, Gédéon Thommen patented a system for replacing individual components and applied for a remontoire patent. The site also states that the company became fully independent in watch production and developed its own parts, tools, and machines. In 1916, it delivered its first aircraft clock to the Swiss Air Force. In 1936, it developed altimeters as well as airspeed and vertical speed indicators for the Swiss Air Force’s C-35 biplane. In 1945, production of the pocket altimeter began.
