About Rado

Rado traces its roots to 1917, when brothers Fritz, Ernst and Werner Schlup became watchmakers and started Schlup & Co. in a converted part of their parents’ home in Lengnau, Switzerland. The brand history page says that by the end of the Second World War, the factory was among the largest producers of watch movements. It also says the launch of the Rado Green Horse in 1957 marked a new chapter for the Schlup family and the start of their own watch brand, Rado.

On its history page, Rado presents the 1962 DiaStar as the world’s first scratchproof watch. The same page says the watch was made from hard metal. Rado also says it introduced high-tech ceramic, ultralight high-tech ceramic, colourful high-tech ceramic and Ceramos to its collections.

Collections shown on the site include Captain Cook, True Square, Centrix, True Round and DiaStar Original. Rado says Captain Cook was initially launched in 1962, and the collections page describes True Square as having a full high-tech ceramic case and bracelet. The site also describes Centrix as Rado’s most popular watch.

Rado says it is headquartered in Lengnau, Switzerland. The site also states that its watches are Swiss Made and that it offers a five year warranty.
