Mondaine traces its story to 1951, when Erwin Bernheim founded the company in Switzerland. The brand also links its design history to the Swiss Federal Railways station clock created in 1944 by Hans Hilfiker. In 1986, Mondaine says it turned that patented station clock design into a watch collection with official approval from the Swiss Federal Railways.
The brand history page records later milestones including a women’s watch in 1988, office accessories in 1989, a Design Plus Award in 1993, and the stop2go watch in 2013. On its site, Mondaine also says it has been comprehensively carbon neutral across scopes 1, 2, and 3 of the Greenhouse Gas Protocol since 2020.
Collections shown on the site include Classic, Evo2, Essence, The Original, Cushion, stop2go, Doppio, NEO, Simply Elegant, Numeri, and Pocket Watch. The site also presents clocks alongside watches, and its history page identifies the Classic collection as the 1986 line based on the Swiss Federal Railways clock design.
Mondaine says its administration moved to new headquarters in Zurich in 2003. Its About and Sustainability pages also state that the company produces its watches at its factory in Biberist, Switzerland. The company describes itself as family-owned, with André and Ronnie Bernheim at the helm, and says the Biberist factory uses up to 80% green energy from its photovoltaic solar power system.
