Mido was founded on 11 November 1918 by Georges Schaeren. On its history materials, the brand says the name Mido comes from the Spanish phrase "Yo mido," meaning "I measure." The site also documents early shaped watches, including models linked to automobile radiator grille design, and identifies the launch of the Multifort line as a milestone in the brand's history.
The brand history page states that in 2016 Mido introduced its first chronometer-certified movement with a silicon balance-spring in the Baroncelli collection. For its 100th anniversary in 2018, Mido launched the Commander Big Date and says it developed an exclusive large-date movement based on Caliber 80 for that model line. The site also says the limited-edition Ocean Star Decompression Timer 1961 sold out within a few weeks in 2020.
Collections shown on the site include Ocean Star, Multifort, Commander, Baroncelli, Belluna, and Rainflower. The site also presents watches such as the Ocean Star 200, Multifort 8 One Crown, and Commander 1959 within those broader lines.
Mido states in its brand magazine that it is based in Le Locle in the Swiss Jura. The history materials say Mido entered a partnership with the International Union of Architects in 2014 and has been the Official Performance Partner of the Red Bull Cliff Diving World Series since 2019. Its website also includes a store locator and access to warranty information and user manuals.
