Luminox says it has been designing high-performance sport watches since 1989. On the brand’s Swiss site, it states that Barry Cohen partnered with Richard Timbo and that the company was born in 1989. The site also says the name combines the Latin words lumi for light and nox for night.
On Luminox’s official site, one of the brand’s early milestones is its connection with the U.S. Navy SEALs. The U.S. site says that in 1992 Nick North of the Navy SEALs’ Development, Test and Evaluation unit sought a more dependable watch for night missions after discovering Luminox. The Swiss site gives the year as 1993 and says North worked with founder Barry Cohen to develop a watch specifically for the Navy SEALs. Luminox also says its watches are designed to glow for up to 25 years in any light condition. The Swiss site further states that after Luminox developed a watch for U.S. Air Force pilots flying the F-117 Nighthawk in 1999, that work led to an arrangement to produce Lockheed Martin timepieces.
Collections shown on the official site have included Navy SEAL, Pacific Diver, Volition America, and RECON Nav Spec. The site also organizes watches by type, including automatic models.
The main Luminox site describes its watches as Swiss Made. Its worldwide distribution page lists Lumondi, Inc. as the United States distributor and provides a network of authorized distributors and service centres.
find.watches is not an authorized dealer for Luminox.
