About Chopard

Chopard was founded in 1860 by Louis-Ulysse Chopard in Sonvilier, Switzerland, as a high-precision watch manufactory specializing in pocket watches and chronometers. In 1937, the company relocated to Geneva, where Paul-André Chopard, the founder’s grandson, continued the family business. In 1963, Karl Scheufele III acquired Chopard from Paul-André Chopard and developed the company with his wife Karin.

The brand’s history page documents several milestones in its watchmaking history. In 1978, Karl Scheufele III invested in the company’s own foundry workshop, enabling in-house production of its gold alloys. In 1996, Karl-Friedrich Scheufele founded Chopard Manufacture in Fleurier for the production of high-precision Swiss watch movements. The site also states that the L.U.C Full Strike, launched in 2016, won the Aiguille d’Or at the 2017 Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève.

Watch collections shown on the site include Alpine Eagle, Happy Sport, Happy Diamonds, L.U.C, L'Heure du Diamant, Mille Miglia, and IMPERIALE. The history page also identifies the 1980 St. Moritz as a watch designed by Karl-Friedrich Scheufele.

Chopard is based in Geneva, the watchmaking center to which it relocated in 1937. The history page also states that Karl Scheufele III sought a Swiss watch manufacturer, preferably in Geneva, before acquiring Chopard in 1963. The brand’s site also states that Chopard Manufacture was founded in Fleurier in 1996.
