Anne Klein was born Hannah Golofsky in Brooklyn on August 3, 1923. The brand’s history page says she worked in New York’s Garment District, became known for separates in the 1950s, and formed Anne Klein and Company in 1968.

It says Anne Klein won the Mademoiselle Merit Award and a Coty American Fashion Critics Award in 1954, received the Neiman Marcus Fashion Leadership Award in 1959, won the Lord & Taylor Award in 1964, became the first designer to repeat as a Neiman Marcus Fashion Leadership Award winner in 1969, and was named to the Coty Hall of Fame in 1971. The same page says Saks Fifth Avenue launched the free-standing Anne Klein Corner in 1970. It also says that after Anne Klein’s death in 1974, design assistants Donna Karan and Louis Dell’Ollio continued the label.
